Review: Banana Republic Vitah Zip Boots

Banana Republic Vitah Zip Boots, size 7.5
Banana Republic Vita Zip boots, wearing size 7.5

Yesterday I returned the Vitah Zip boots that I ordered from Banana Republic a little over a month ago. I really hope I don't regret my decision because they seem really supple and well made. I liked the rounded toe box, they didn't have too much bunching at the ankles and they seemed comfortable (not stiff in the ankles) when I wore them around the house on the carpeted floors. Unfortunately I never reached for them within the month I held onto them because couldn't figure out how to commute in them. I almost always prefer to commute in flats when taking public transportation so that I don't trip over my own feet, fall down the stairs if someone accidentally shoves me or for peace of mind when walking along slippery/icy winter pavements.

Anyway, without further ado, here are the measurements:

14 1/2" outer circumference
13 1/2" shaft height
4 1/8" heel (there is a covered platform making them feel more like 3 1/2")

With skinny jeans on my calves measure 13.5" so there was still a tiny gap around my calves. These boots are one of the closest fits to my calves for leather boots aside from my trusty Cole Haan Sierra Air tall boots. They're similar to a pair that I tried on at Bally last year (without the zipper detail) but for a fraction of the price. They're regularly $225 but currently 40% off this weekend. I typically wear size 7 in Banana's flats but I went up half a size for comfort for these boots. If you have narrow feet then these will probably fit you true to size.

Here are some more pictures for reference. They're currently sold out online but you maybe able to call your local store to see if they have it in stock. The online item number is 686975002 but the in store item number on the return receipt is 915246.

I just wanted to share a few of my recent buys since I haven't been blogging for a while due to work and other reasons.

#OOTD: Tailor striped blouse from #LOFT, starburst fan necklace and Sloan fit ankle pants from #BananaRepublic, #AnnTaylor gallery tote, #JCrew captoe pumps.

Banana Republic Sloan Fit ankle pants, size 0P

J.Crew cap toe pumps, size 7
First up is my newest favorite striped top from LOFT. I originally ordered the Tailor stripe sheer blouse in size XXS but the sleeves were too long so I ordered size XSP which worked out much better overall. Size XSP measures:

17.25" bust
20" along the bottom hem
18" sleeve length
4.25" banded button sleeves
23.5" total length

LOFT scalloped lace dress in 0P
LOFT Scalloped Sleeveless Lace Dress, both size 0P
This scalloped lace dress caught my eye online and I couldn't decide on the color so I ordered both to try and ended up keeping the black one. I like that the neckline isn't too low and I'm just looking for the perfect cropped cardigan or jacket to pair it with. Size 0P measures:

13.5" waist
15" bust
32" total length

Loving my cozy infinity scarf on this gloomy Friday.
LOFT Lurex Open Stitch Infinity Scarf
LOFT Striped Popcorn Stitch Sweater, size MP
I really love this infinity scarf since I've been looking for one that isn't too bulky. This one fit the bill in both warmth and softness and I'd highly recommend it.

Checking off 'wear a tutu' from my bucket list. Well sort of. Trying on the tutu skirt from #LOFT in regular 00 before it goes back in store. Measures 26" in the waist by 18.5" long. There's a grey jersey lining underneath so it's not see through.
LOFT Tulle Skirt, size 00
This tulle tutu skirt didn't work out for me but the measurements of size 00 regular are:

13" waist
18.5" length

My #OOTD for meeting up with @justtututiny tonight: #zara blouse and jacket, #oldnavy rockstar legging jeans, #anntaylor scarf, #philliplimfortarget bag, #stuartweitzman boots.
Ann Taylor Twilight Leaf Print Scarf
I also loved this leaf print scarf from Ann Taylor so much since it drapes really well and is a thicker weight perfect for the winter. My mom actually took mine so I was very relieved to find this in stores on Black Friday for 50% off since I hate ordering fillers online. I even gifted it to my good friend along with the draped turtleneck top below for her birthday.

Loving this draped turtleneck from #AnnTaylor (wearing size MP). They have so many pretty tops ad dress for fall on sale for 40% off.
Ann Taylor Draped Turtleneck, size MP
I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I reached for this turtleneck top so far. I really adore the feminine drape of the neck since I find normal turtlenecks to be very suffocating and static hair inducing in this cold, dry winter weather.
The perfect bit of holiday #sparkle. Starburst fan necklace from #BananaRepublic.
Banana Republic Stardust Fan necklace
Another favorite find of mine is this sparkly necklace from Banana Republic. I met up with Thu of Justtututiny for some shopping a few weeks ago and spotted it in store. She convinced me to try it on and I'm so glad that she did. It comes with an extender so you can easily wear it with multiple necklines.
Just ordered the Vitah boots at #BananaRepublic for 40% off. I tried on size 7 in store because it was conveniently the floor model but it was a little snug so I'm hoping size 7 1/2 will fit perfectly. :) Perfect for narrow calves (mine measure 13.5" at t
Banana Republic Vitah Zip Boot, size 7.5
I purchased this boot a month ago and I was really impressed with the quality. It's also a great fit for those with narrow calves. My calves measure 13.5" at the widest part mid calf with jeans on. I still haven't worn them out though because I'm not sure that high heel boots are safe to wear in the New England winters even though our grounds are currently free of snow. The foot bed runs narrow so I went up half a size for comfort.

This or That, Splurge versus Steal

Ann Taylor Gallery Tote vs. Louis Vuitton Lumineuse PM Monogram Empreinte
Ann Taylor Gallery Tote ($98), latest version here
vs.

Ann Taylor Gallery Tote in black
You can see the bag on me here
(Pillow covers from Etsy)

I first saw this bag on Kate during the Birch Box and Ann Taylor event about a month ago and I really liked the simple lines. I liked the bag even more when I saw it in stores and tried it on but I really wasn't supposed to get another bag (explanation to follow) so I waited for it to go on sale. My patience paid off because I ended up getting the bag for $51.77 + tax during Ann Taylor's recent promotion for $50 off full-priced purchases of $100 or more. The bag was shy of $100 so I threw in a pair of socks (a tip I remembered from a resourceful sales associate) for $8. To get free shipping I also threw in a couple of dresses on sale. Needless to say, the dresses didn't work out but I was able to get the bag for a great price.

Ann Taylor is currently having a promotion for 40% off two or more items (no code needed). Here are the measurements for those interested in snagging this functional bag at a great price:

16" width (I prefer to wear it with the gussets zipped)
11" height
13" length (base)
5.5" width (base)
9" drop handles

The bag is very lightweight which is a plus but it only comes with one small zipped pocket and the base does not have a shaper.

Louis Vuitton Lumineuse PM in Infini

My fiancé gifted me the Lumineuse PM on my 30th birthday this year. The Lumi filled my black bag void (the Infini color is a very dark navy) and it had been on the top of my wishlist for two years but the caveat was that I wasn't allowed to buy another bag for a very long time. I enjoy looking at bags as much as the next girl but I said that I would try my best to abide by his wishes. Unfortunately, what surprised me most about this bag was the weight. I've tried it on countless times prior to purchasing it but once it was mine I quickly realized how heavy it becomes when you put everything in it. If you're interested in getting this bag please note that it weighs 3 pounds empty. I usually wear it without the cross body strap and I removed the little brass lock since every little bit helps to prevent shoulder pain and discomfort.

Comparison of Louboutin Simple 85 and J.Crew Sloane patent pump size by side. Both size 7.5z As you can see the CL's run smaller by half a size which is why I'm trying to sell them. :)
vs.
J.Crew Sloane Patent pumps ($238) in soft desert - currently on sale for 25% off (similar here)

I've owned a pair of Simple 100s in black for a few years and they've held up surprisingly well so last summer I made the plunge and purchased the Simple 85s. I'm usually a size 7 but I had to go up half a size for the Simple 100s for comfort. Naturally I assumed I could do the same with the Simple 85s but they run a full size smaller on me. Other online reviews differ so please note that this is just my own experience and every foot is different.

I've been trying to sell my Simple 85s because they are too snug so once again I had a nude pump void to fill. I was very excited when StylishPetite told me about the nude patent Sloane. Sloane is a new style this year and it reminds me of the Prada almond toe nude pumps that I pinned last year. To my delight, Sloane is the first pair of J.Crew pumps that seem to agree with my feet/arch. Up until a few years ago I lived in heels and but I ended up with Achilles tendinitis which was a very painful recovery. Thank goodness for flats. Anyway I'm digressing- there was a 25% off sale so I ordered both the cap toe and nude pairs in size 7 (following Amber's review) but I personally had to go up half a size in the patent version. The cap toe version ran true to size.

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target vs. Similar full price top found at Neiman Marcus
vs.
Full price asymmetrical top ($495 at CUSP by Neiman Marcus)

I remember hearing about the 3.1 Phillip Lim and Target collaboration from Jenny a while back but I forgot about it until last weekend when my Instagram feed was flooded with pictures of early morning hauls. I went into Target to run some errands last Saturday afternoon and there were no more bags but I did find this cream colored ruffle tank in size XS. The arm holes are a tad big so I still need to try it on again with a cardigan or blazer to see if it works. Note that the navy color is still available online in all sizes. I was curious about the price of the designer pieces and I wasn't shocked that to find a similar top (pictured above) for 18 times the price.

Both in size 00

As alluded to in my previous post the chances of me placing another order during the 40% off promotion was pretty high and talking myself out of it obviously didn't work. I ordered the bracelet pictured above, these two dresses along with a red dress which I'm returning (see it on me here and here in size 0 regular). I also got this cami to wear by itself or to layer under other blouses. Size XSP was a tad long to layer under blouses at 24" because the hem sticks out a little but it looks great when worn by itself. I plan on sizing down to size XXSP to see if that helps with the length for layering.

LOFT Crepe Short Sleeve Dress, size 00
 Crepe Short Sleeve Dress

The measurements of size 00 with the garment laid flat are:
  • 17" bust
  • 13.5" waist
  • 33" length

Decision: Undecided. I still need to get out the wrinkles to assess if I want to keep this dress and I need to try it on with cardigans and blazers for versatility.

LOFT Polka Dot Tie Neck Dress, size XXS
 Polka Dot Tie Neck Dress

The measurements of size 00 with the garment laid flat are:
  • 17" bust
  • 12.5" elasticized waist (stretches comfortable to about 14")
  • 33" length
Decision: Undecided. I have a weakness for polka dots so I ordered it to try on. I think it looks the same on me in terms of fit as it does on the model in the stock image. Again, I need to try this on with cardigans and blazers  to see how the dress would work with my wardrobe. I think it's really cute but I have a lot of clothes that I hardly wear.

I learned my clothes hoarding lesson the hard way this past weekend when I sold a bunch of my clothes on my shop account on Instagram for a fraction of what I paid. I felt like I was busting my butt and the only upside is knowing that my clothes will be loved by another home. Less is more and I'm still in the painful process of culling my closet. I might consider using Poshmark since I already have an account but I need to familiarize myself with their features and guidelines. The PayPal fees and shipping fees that I paid out of pocket were sometimes more than Poshmark's 20% commission fee. If anyone has any selling tips or advice I'd certainly welcome it.

On that note, I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm sad summer is flying by so quickly and it was chilly enough tonight to remind me that fall will be upon us in under a month. I'm on holiday for a week beginning Saturday but I plan to ship out the necklace for the giveaway as soon as Friday if I hear back from the winner.

xo,

Jess

A LOFTY Update

Hi Ladies,

Special thanks to Annie for sharing the code FRIENDS for 40% off LOFT during the cardholders preview the day before. The current promotion is good through Sunday August 18th and there are no exclusions. I don't have a LOFT or Ann Taylor card so my shopaholic self was worried that the items I wanted would sell out in my size. Fortunately when I checked the cart in the morning my picks were still there so I happily ordered away.

It's been a little over four months since my last post but I figured I'd take advantage of the latest sale to show you a backlog of how some (okay, a lot) of items fit on me. I keep hoping that I'll magically shed my winter blubber but alas with lots of eating and no exercise aside from walking around town I'm still at my heavier weight of around 110 give or take a few pounds (my preferred weight is 102-103). For reference I'm 5' 2 1/4". I've had hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease since 2004 so my weight has fluctuated a lot. Aside from GD it could be attributed old age plus bad habits such as eating late and downing copious amounts of bubble tea (and yes, I've heard about the boba recall). It's all well and good I guess and I'm finding that I fit a lot more clothes than I usually would.

I prefer regular XXS (as seen in the striped top below) but either it wasn't available or it sold out in that size.

Keep: Mixed Stripe Square Boatbeck tee, size XXS (as seen on Jean here)

The neck opening was impossibly small in the petites size so I ordered the regular XXS. I prefer an easier on and off so I took this top to my tailor to create a 4" keyhole opening with button detail in the back. Update: See finished product here.

Decision: Love it. Regular XS was too big and roomy on me but unfortunately XXS is sold out. :(

Decision: Love it. See it on me here.

In addition to the keepers up top below are my picks for the sale. A couple of items I noticed after I placed my order so unless I see them in stores I'm going to try not to place another order to save myself from epic returns. At least this is what I tell myself right now. :)

Happy shopping!

The Perfect Summer Espadrilles

Andre Assous Josie mid wedge sandal in Taupe

Adrienne Vittadini Vee wedge sandal in beige

Last year I found a pair of sandals and espadrilles that I wore non-stop all spring and summer (see the review here). Unfortunately I wore the espadrilles to death and I didn't buy a back up pair so I found myself in the same dilemna as last year searching for the perfect shoe to fulfill all my spring/summer footwear needs.

This year my search began early in January when I came across Andre Assous who is supposedly the king of espadrilles. In hindsight I was probably overzealous because I ordered the Erika mid-heel espadrilles in both taupe and black because they were on sale (see my review here). As an update to my last review I didn't like the shorter heel height but I sat on them for far too long so I couldn't return them.

Note: If you're interested in Erika and you're a size 7 please email me at what.jess.wore@gmail.com. I'm hoping to pass on both of these to other happy feet and I noticed they're full price everywhere else. I wore out the taupe color once but the black pair is new and unworn.

I still couldn't stop thinking about my favorite pair of espadrilles from last year so you can imagine my glee when I came across the Adrienne Vittadini Vee wedge sandals a few weeks ago. Vee runs about a half size bigger but if you have wider feet then I'd say it runs true to size. I do not recommend Vee and below is a short list of my dislikes:
  • Color: When I unboxed Vee I wasn't a huge fan of the silver metallic color. The color was misleading because it was supposed to be beige as indicated on the product details online.
  • Comfort: I tried them on around the house and they seemed to be the same fit as last year's version. However, I spoke too soon on Instagram and learned my lesson the hard way when I wore them out a full day and ended up with four blisters (two on each foot). The front cross strap design cut and pinched into the wrong places on my feet. For some strange reason my left pinky toe also kept falling out of the gap between the straps but this issue didn't happen with my right foot.

Here are a few pictures of what Vee looks like on me:

Adrienne Vittadini Vee Wedge Sandal

Adrienne Vittadini Vee Wedge Sandal

Note: If you're interested in Vee and you're a size 7 please email me at what.jess.wore@gmail.com. I've only worn them out once.

Of course I was really disappointed that yet another pair of shoes didn't work out so I searched online yet again when I came across the Andre Assous Josie espadrilles. Third time's a charm because these are a winner in both comfort and style. Below is a laundry list of reasons why I like and would recommend Josie.

  • Color: The taupe color is a neutral color that elongates the legs. It's also a lighter shade of taupe the the color of the straps on Erika.
  • Heel height: The heel is 0.5" higher than the Erika mid-heel espadrilles. Josie's wedge heel measures 3.25" while Erika was 2.75". I personally prefer heels that are at least 3".
  • Comfort:  The front straps are comfortable instead of binding. I didn't end up with deep lines from the straps after wearing them for a full day. The back strap doesn't dig in and it managers to keep your heel in place. Unlike my experience with Vee, my pinky toes did not fall through the side of the front straps where they cross over.
  • Sizing: They run true to size.
  • Sole: The sole is leather but managers to be non-slip which is a plus in my book. I appreciate not slipping and falling on my behind.
  • Weight: Josie is light as air. Some espadrilles can be very heavy causing your heel to come out when you walk.
  • Style: I really like the way this shoes hugs my feet and it's just the right heel height to create a lengthening effect.
  • Made in Spain. It's always nice to find a good spring/summer shoe that's not made in China

LOFT Review
LOFT Climbing Floral Print Drop Waist Dress
LOFT Pleated Mid Length Tank Dress
LOFT Striped Pleated Skirt Dress

I ordered these dresses last week during LOFT's 40% off promotion as well as this skort. I loved the print of the climbing floral dress, the pleated dress looked like a classic every occasion dress and I was stoked to see the striped dress offered in petites (it was originally offered in regular sizes only).

LOFT Climbing Floral Print Drop Waist Dress, sz 00P
LOFT Climbing Floral Print Drop Waist Dress, sz 00P

I shared a sneak peek of this dress the other day on Instagram. As much as I loved the print the bust darts were not very flattering on me. I'm not sure if it came through in either picture I posted but the darts stick out a bit on me probably because I don't quite fill it out.

The measurements* of size 00P are as follows:
16" bust
17" waist (at the drop waist)
31.5" total length

*Measurements taken with the garment laid flat.

LOFT pleated mid length tank dress, sz 00P
LOFT Pleated Mid Length Tank Dress, sz 00P
The dress pictured above has straps that were too short on me unlike the dress pictured below. This resulted in arm holes that were too tight on me. I'm afraid size 0P might be too roomy and too long so I am returning this dress but hesitant to re-order.

The measurements of size 00P are as follows:
15" bust
14" waist
4" straps (8" total length)
38 1/2" total length
LOFT Striped Pleated Skirt Dress, sz 00P
LOFT Striped Pleated Skirt Dress, sz 00P

This dress is very adorable and fit as pictured online but the stripes are more of a light canvas color instead of white. The material has a linen/burlap feel to it which is consistent with at least one reviewer's opinion online. I didn't love this dress on me so I will be returning.

The measurements of size 00P are as follows:
14 1/2" bust
13" waist
7" straps (14" total length)
32 1/2" total length

A few weeks ago I stopped into my local LOFT for some returns and of course I had to try on a few items as follows:

LOFT eyelet bodic sleeveless dress, 00P
LOFT Eyelet Bodice Sleeveless Dress, sz 00P
Michael Kors Holly flats from The Bargain District (old)
I tried on this dress in 00P and unfortunately I couldn't find 0P to try on for comparison. Unlike the other drop waist dress I reviewed above, this dress was tight in the arm holes and it was a bit short for my comfort. I thought it was a really cute style and there is a very sweet grosgrain bow detail on the zipper pull. Strangely enough this dress is see through on the top so you can see my nude bra underneath. I'm not sure if wearing a black bra would help resolve this issue.

LOFT embroidered flower pleated full skirt, 0P
H&M Scalloped top, sz 2
LOFT Embroidered Flower Pleated Full Skirt, 0P
Annie recommended this embroidered skirt a while back and I spotted it in store so I tried it on for size. 0P turned out to be a bit too big and it wasn't until I put back the skirt that I noticed a 00P in the stack. Unfortunately, I was too lazy to change again and try on the smaller size. It's a pretty white skirt for spring and summer and it's lined. I may consider getting this skirt during their next promotion.

Note: I found that this skirt wasn't see through when compared to the other white skirt pictured behind me in the photo above. That particular skirt ran big in 00P and LOFT sizing can be very inconsistent so you may need to try things on in a few sizes.
