J.Crew New Arrivals & Love Lace

J.Crew February 2013 Style Guide

I received my J.Crew style guide on yesterday and I was excited to learn (thanks to JCA) that they had updated the website this morning with some new arrivals. Looking through the latest catalog has made me very excited for spring.

Here are some things that caught my eye:

Sera top in traced medallion (item 65235)  - Loving the 'medallion' print.
Postage stamp sailor mini (item 70676) - Adoring this nautical skirt in red with gold buttons.
Crewcuts girls' organdy amore dress (item 40557) - A heart print dress. Need I say more? I was surprised to find no womens' equivalent.
Mini medallion tie-neck dress (item 31427) - Pleats, a beautiful wine red color and an eye catching print.
Noir tweed dress (item 21691) - This looks like a great way to start off my 'tweed' collection. I'm currently tweedless.
Pleated dress in Super 120s (item 64958) - Feminine in peach.

Shoes  & Bags

Etta cap toe leather pumps (item 98530) - Navy. Chunky heels. Love.
Collection Contessa snakeskin-bow pumps (item 64788) - I am head over heels for this pump in black with a fetching white bow.
Collection classic snakeskin ballet flats (item 42002) - The 'ivory' color is a the perfect neutral.

Colorblock Tartine satchel (item 53166) - A bold bag with clean lines. It's not nearly as awesome as this bag I missed out on but it's a close contender.

Shoe sketch scarf (item 35067) - I have a weakness for sketch prints. This one is so feminine.
Pastel and neon statement necklace (item 56168) - Just plain awesome.
Translucent stone bracelet (item 95969) - Minty must have.
Crystal embroidered bib necklace (item 35403) - This statement necklace looked gorgeous in the stock image for the Carenna gown (see link below).

Wedding Whites - I need to start dress shopping and these seemed like a decent start.

Percy gown (item 47605)
Carenna gown (item 47555)
Corliss gown (item 47534)

J.Crew is currently offering free shipping with no minimum but I'm holding onto my spring rewards card and eagerly anticipating their next promotion.

I also received this Ann Taylor Factory lace top in the mail today. I fell in love with the top when I first saw it on Annie. She even helped me score this top in XS Petite for $24.99 with free shipping (see it on her here and here). Thanks Annie!

AT Factory Lace top (style 285714 color code 5052) - purchased in sz XS Petite

The scalloped lace is so pretty (I purposely stood directly under the recessed light to take this picture) and this top has the best liner that I've ever come across. The lining isn't see through, it's not too low and it's sewn in so that it won't move around and expose your bra straps.

A Tax Break

I received my W2 for work on Friday but I've yet to file my taxes. Yes, I'm aware it's not even April 15th but I like to receive my refund yesterday. Naturally when I saw my gross pay (and my mind has completely blocked out how much taxes I've paid to Uncle Sam) I wondered how much I spent here and there particularly on shopping (my favorite past time). Gap Inc., but mainly Banana Republic, is my favorite retailer and in 2012 I averaged almost $300 on my monthly bills. Yikes!

In case you're wondering, this is not a post on taxes or where I try to justify my spending (and I do pay off all my cards in full) but I shop for both my fiance and I. He doesn't buy clothes on his own and his closet is almost exclusively full of Banana Republic t-shirts, dress shirts, jeans and belts. I was also pretty good about getting everything at 40-50% off and using Ebates or Mr. Rebates (the latter recommended by Annie).

Anyway, on to more trivial things like what to do on Sundays. We like to go to open houses (interest rates are at an all time low) in case something catches our eye  so I was trying to come up with an appropriate outfit for tomorrow. Of course I realize that no one may see my outfit if I keep my coat on but I still like to be prepared and look like a responsible adult whenever possible.

Banana Republic White Silk Pintuck blouse XXS Petite
Banana Republic Black lightweight wool blazer in 00P
Gap 1969 legging jeans (last year's version, this year's version runs one size bigger in my opinion)
Louis Vuitton Trevi PM
Yup, I tuck in my plushies. Still a kid at heart. :)

I've barely wore the scarf pictured above (purchased in August) and I finally got around to ironing out the creases today. I really hate ironing with a passion. Sometimes things will go unworn for months on end because I'm just too lazy to iron it... like the scarf. Ha!

I ordered this pintuck blouse thinking it was the same as the one from last year but this year's version lacks the inside cami and it's not the same sheer material. I still like it though so I'm keeping it. Despite the difference in the material it fits about the same.

I also ordered this Zara girl's trench earlier this week. It was a total fail and looked like an oversized chef's jacket on me. Feel free to see for yourself (here, here and here).

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Polka Dots Are My Kryptonite

F21 Polka Dot Smocked Top, sz S
Forever 21 Polka Dot Smocked Top in sz S
Loft Denim Leggings in Rinse Wash
Scarf from Lord & Taylor
Tiffany & Co. bracelets (here & here)
Cola Haan Sierra Air Tall Boots (old from 2010 I think)

I have a weakness for polka dots. Big dots, little dots, colorful dots... Who is with me?

I bought the above top even though I already have a similar one (worn here). I like it better though because it has smocked sleeves (they call them cuffs on the website) that you can push up and they stay in place. Unlike the other top this one doesn't leave little traces of gold glitter throughout the day. The smocked shoulders are a nice detail and it's sheer so I wore a black cami underneath.

Going right along with my polka dot obsession, I ordered this dress with high hopes riding on the positive reviews. (More online reviews have since posted within the 10 days it took for me to receive my order.) Unfortunately, the straps are much too long on me and it's still on the thin side (perfect for summer) even though it's lined. Note that this dress has an open back but it still manages to hide your bra (assuming the straps fit you as is).

It's such a cute and flirty silhouette that I'm debating on whether or not I should try to shorten the straps myself or just return it. It looks great when layered with my marigold jacket and a few other jackets I tried on. Generally, F21's website measurements are spot on but in this case I found a discrepancy in the waist measurements. I checked a few times to make sure but it's actually 26" across the banded waistline (13" when the item is laid flat) instead of 24".

A Weekend Find

Lauren Conrad Bow Henley Blouse in pink tint, sz XS
LC Lauren Conrad Bow Henley Blouse

I came across the sweetest top while browsing Kohls' online right after Annie shared this scalloped top by Lauren Conrad on Instagram. I wasn't familiar with this brand at all and I refused to pay for shipping on principle so I didn't order it. Today we happened to pass by a Kohls so I asked my fiance to make a pit stop and I'm glad we did because this was the only one I found in the sales rack and it happened to be my size! This top still available online in both pink and berry in all sizes and it's currently on sale for 25% off. $30 is definitely pricey for polyester but it makes up for it up in cuteness.

Lauren Conrad Bow Henley Blouse in pink tint, sz XS
The arm holes a little big but layering with a cami helps

Here are some approximate measurements of the size XS:

9" arm holes
17" across the armpit/chest
23" length

Lauren Conrad Bow Henley Blouse in pink tint, sz XS
On the hanger in store
Underneath the bows are little snap placket buttons

This top would be perfect for Valentine's day particularly in the berry color. It looks great when worn under a blazer or cardigan but I'm looking forward to wearing this top by itself in the spring/summer.

A Marigold Jacket

Tinley Road Bleeker Blazer (stock image)

I've been on a little yellow kick lately with the chartreuse crewcuts girl's coat and now this blazer pictured above in canary yellow. The Bleeker blazer has been available for a while and it's received a lot of positive reviews on Piperlime. It also comes in 9 other colors (there are two black colors listed but I'm not sure why since they both look the same to me).

In my opinion, the canary yellow color looks more like marigold in real life. This blazer sat in my shopping cart for months but I would always save it for later since I thought that the bright color was outside my comfort zone. Last week,  I finally decided to buy it because it was an additional 20% off the sale price of $39.99 (for a final price of $31.99).

Here is what the jacket looked like right after I took it out of the plastic wrap. It's a bit wrinkly since but once I tried it on the wrinkles were not very noticeable.

Tinley Road Bleeker Blazer in Canary Yellow, sz XS (front)   Tinley Road Bleeker Blazer in Canary Yellow, sz XS (back)

The style is high-low so it is longer in the front than the back. The measurements of size XS (with the garment laid flat) are as follows:

16" across the armpit/chest
14" when measured from the most tapered part of the jacket (at the waist)
24.75" sleeves
24.5" length in front
19.5" length in back

I tried on the jacket with a few of the other items in my recent order to make sure that it was versatile with both pants and dresses. Here are my two favorite looks:

Andre Assous Erika Espadrille in black, sz 7

I have to thank Annie for telling me about this dress. She spotted it in stores a few weeks ago and she always looks so amazing in Banana Republic sheath dresses.

Do you own any Bleeker blazers? If so, what other colors would you recommend?

Spring On My Mind

Andre Assos Erika Espadrille in Taupe and Black
Heel height: 2.75"
Front platform: 0.5"

Late last week, I found these Andre Assous espadrilles on sale while searching for a replacement for my favorite spring/summer shoes from last year (see my post here). I'm not familiar with this brand but some quick googling dubbed the designer as the 'King of espadrilles'.

I jumped on two colors because the original retail price is $155 per pair but the taupe color was $68 and the black pair was $49.57 through Amazon. They arrived in two days because my friend shared her Amazon Prime account with me (love free two-day shipping). This model is still full price on the retailer's website and other websites so I'm not really sure why they are on sale at Amazon. At the time I didn't question a good thing and my size was low on inventory.

I've worn these around the house and they are true to size and very comfortable. The ankle straps are a little loose so if you have thin/small ankles then they may not work for you. In the summer my feet/ankles expand a little from the heat and prolonged standing/walking so I think this will work out really well for me. I'm glad I got both colors because black is currently sold out in my size. Surprisingly the navy pair which is full price is almost sold out.

Here are some pictures of what they look like on me:

This past weekend I also came across this Coach Poppy wristlet. I adore the poppy print a lot but I'm not much of a small bag/wristlet kind of girl so I'll be mulling over it until this long weekend. The front pocket is meant for your cellphone and the second compartment has slots for a three credit cards. The only thing I don't like about this wristlet is the fact that it's fabric and not something more durable.

Should I keep this random weekend purchase? It's the #Coach #poppy wristlet for spring. #whatjessbought #recentfinds #shopping #instapic #igers #igdaily #instadaily #iphonesia #photooftheday #picoftheday #potd

Have a great week!

Review: Crewcuts Bow Coat

Last week I checked out J.Crew online lured by the promise of an additional 30% off sale items. As usual I didn't see anything I wanted in women's so I turned to crewcuts and stumbled across this adorable coat*. Unfortunately only girl's size 12 was available (I usually take size 14) but I ordered it anyway and hoped for the best. Khatu wore it here in bright pink, size 12.

I prefer the girl's version over the women's version which has a funnel neck, strange bow placement and deep pockets. The girl's version is a cleaner silhouette and it just screams cute. Interestingly, after reading Gigi's review I realized that the girl's version is a duplicate of the French serge day coat from 2008. Update 10/20/15: Check out the 2015 version of the crewcuts bow coat here.

I was a little disappointed about the weight of the coat when I took it out of the box. I get cold easily in the winter and it's a thinner coat so it'd be perfect for late fall and early spring here in New England. Alternatively, layers are definitely required to stay toasty. I tried it on noting that the sleeves were too short but when I looked in the mirror it looked adorable and my fiance agreed. I think this coat can pass as a three-quarter length coat on me so I'm keeping it. After discounts I scored it for $97.99 and thank goodness for free shipping on crewcuts.

Warmer weather is in store for  us this weekend so I am really looking forward to wearing my new coat out and about town.

*I just received the coat today. This coat has since sold out.

Review: Hunter Rain Boot Spray

My Hunter rain boots (purchased last year) looked pretty sad when I took them out of storage this so they were promptly returned to the box. It's rained and it's snowed all season and I really wanted to wear them to keep dry but I didn't know what to do about the white residue that had appeared on my once glossy boots. After some quick googling I learned that it's a phenomenon called the 'blooming'. I wanted a quick, no fuss solution so I purchased a bottle of the Hunter boot spray and now I have my shiny back. :)

I suggest you try it yourself. One bottle should last multiple uses so you could definitely split the cost, $12, with a friend or keep the rest for next year.

Yi-Chia also used the spray on her adorable burgundy boots. Check out her blog post here.

Note: The instructions suggest one cloth for applying the spray and another to buff but I used only one cloth throughout the entire process (a thin handkerchief). I also did the application in the tub of my second bathroom since I could easily wipe it down afterwards.

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year! In 2012, I enjoyed sharing my outfits and finds and getting my feet wet in social media and blogging. I'm enjoying the last few days of vacation with my family and I wanted to share an outfit that I never posted on the blog. (I originally planned to wear this outfit on my fiance's birthday last year.)

Here's to a fabulous 2013!
