Happy Friday! It’s finally the weekend and it was one of those weird weeks where I kept on thinking it was Friday but maybe because the week was just dragging. I got a few things in the mail and I also wanted to share some try-ons that I’ve been hoarding on my phone. I love this white ribbed trim cardigan (review here) paired with a striped tee but the cuffed sleeve on the tee shows up as a bump on my upper arms through the sleeves. I didn’t notice this detail until today when I tried the pairing on again today.
Lately I have been trying to be better about giving myself a bit more time to decide if I should keep something I ordered online. I also try on the item two to three times. This process has helped me from ending up with a lot of regret purchases. I used to cut off the tags right away and be left with items I didn’t really love but could no longer return. It’s very easy to be excited about new things but when I give myself more time to think it over I can look at the item with fresh perspective and a more discerning eye.

I am still deciding if I want to keep this knit blazer from the #nsale. I like the preppy look with the striped top underneath.
OUTFIT DETAILS: LOFT Striped Crossover Mixed Media Sweater, size XXSP | Topshop Jamie High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans, size 26W x 28L petite (review and measurements here) | Ainifeel Women’s Genuine Leather Hobo Shoulder Bag in glue grey | Click here to view the outfit on me
This cute sweater is one of my favorite new tops (and one of the few new items I decided to keep) since I love the crossover back detail and the striped peplum hem. I love the clean look paired with white denim. This sweater is also available as a floral hem flounce here. I sized down to XXSP which fit like my usual size XSP. The overall length is longer so it covers my front and backside nicely.
I am on the fence about this striped tee due to how it looks when worn alone. It is a very relaxed fit and size XXSP fits like a loose fitting size XSP on me. It does look great paired under my cardigan as shown at the top of this post. It’s a thicker knit material so it’s not see through. If you like this style it’s also available in solid colors here. I was also interested in this striped vintage soft tee but it doesn’t come in petites and I’m usually size XXSP in the vintage soft tees.
I’m clearly on a mission to find the perfect striped top so I ordered this sweater to try as well. I like the solid collar and hem for the clean look but the top is looser around the waist. Hopefully I can find size XXSP to try on for comparison. For now I returned size XSP.
I tried really hard to convince myself that I should keep this adorable top but size XXSP was too narrow at the shoulders and the sash and peplum flounce is too cropped to be comfortable on me. The wrap style also gaps on my chest so it wouldn’t keep me covered unless I used something to fasten it. I’m afraid size XSP would be too much material for my small chest so I’m returning this top much to my dismay. If you like this wrap style top it’s also available in a blossom print.
This striped top is really cute but the waist is too baggy on me. I wish it came in petites for a better fit but this is only offered in regular missy sizes.
I really like this floral print blouse but size XXSP was too narrow at the shoulders and the buttoned cuffs on the half sleeves were too tight on the middle of my forearms. If you like this style it’s also available in a solid navy color here. I’ll have to try size XSP at a later date to see if it fits me more comfortably. I was afraid the body would be too wide and flowy.
LOFT Bow Back Short Sleeve Swing Dress, size XXS regular (review of size XSP here, review of size XXSP here) | Zara Straw Tote (past season, similar here) | Target A New Day Jayme Bow Ballet Flats (true to size) | Click here and here to view the clips from my try-on
I ordered this navy swing dress to try in XXS regular since petites was too short in the overall length. The regular missy size is much better on me (I’m 5′ 2.5″) but I didn’t love the dress on me so I ended up changing my mind. I’m going through a phase where I don’t love any of the swing dresses I have in my closet either.
I meant to share these fitting room reviews sooner but the LOFT clearance sale felt like a never-ending sale.
LOFT Sateen Utility Jacket, size XSP | LOFT Gilded Button Flutter Top, size XXSP | LOFT Checked Jacquard Pull On Skirt, size XXSP (review of the dress here) | Ann Taylor Linear Earrings | Ann Taylor Charlie Patent Bow Pumps (past season favorite, size 9.5 available on Tradesy) | Click here to view the clip from my try-on
This utility jacket is a relaxed fit in my usual size XSP. I’m curious how size XXSP would fit for comparison but this was the only one at my store likely due to an online return when I stumbled across it in store. There are two ties inside on either side of the waist which allow you to cinch the waist for a more feminine fit. I’d say this is more of a light shirt jacket for early fall. Based on where the sleeves hit my wrists they look to be around 22″.
This flutter top is really cute and a great base layer. I was wearing a black bra when I tried it on so it’s not see through since you can’t make out the outline of my bra. Interestingly sometimes a nude bra’s outline will show through but a black bra will not. Size XXSP fit like a loose fitting size XSP on me especially at the waist so this top runs once size bigger. The buttons are functional so that you can take off the top with more ease and not smear your makeup on the collar. Update 8/30: This flutter sleeve style is also available in other colors, a pretty floral print and thin stripes.
I also wanted to love this pull-on style skirt but in person it has a boxy fit at the waist making me look very rectangular. The slight gathering at the elastic waist also makes me look bloated. You can see what I mean in the right, side profile picture above. Size XXSP fits like size XSP. The pockets are functional.
This dress is so cute but I am in between sizes. The top portion of size 00P fits me best but the skirt portion of size 0P lays better through my waist and hips. Size 0P was too loose on my small chest so the bust darts looked funny as you can see here. The dress is navy and the pockets are functional. I love the pearl buttons detail. I may cave and order size 00 regular to compare if it’s still available. The hips of this dress are narrow so if you are curvy then you may need to size up. I have a straight figure with minimal curves since puberty clearly missed me.
This little white dress is so pretty and it fits true to size but the halter style does have a looser fit at the chest/upper torso and the cut of the arm holes sits lower. It would be difficult for me to wear a strapless bra without the sides of the bra peeking through. I probably need this dress in size XXSP for a better fit but I hate wearing strapless bras so I’ll pass at this time.
This hoodie is so cute but it has a looser fit and wide sleeves. I wish it came in petites for a better fit. Also, as of Tuesday August 13th you can now buy select Lou & Grey styles at Nordstrom! Nordstrom does price match in case you see the item on sale on loft.com or louandgrey.com however many of the pieces I spotted appear to be exclusive to Nordstrom.
The thicker lace and color of this dress is absolutely gorgeous and well made. Sometimes have an issue with arm holes of Ann Taylor dresses and the arm holes of this particular dress is very generous in size 00P as you can see here. Size 00P fit like my usual size 0P. This pretty lace is also available as a tee.
I loved this outfit idea as seen on my friend Lilly. The lilly print on this blouse is very pretty but size XXS petite could easily fit size XS regular since it is very long and loose fitting. It does tuck in well despite the generous sizing.
I love this striped pencil skirt and I found that size 00P was much too form fitting to be appropriate for work so I went with my usual size 0P. The skirt does wrinkle a bit throughout the day similar to linen.
Dori at my local store assisted me with a few other outfit options and this red and white look and the below pink dress came home with me. I love this crisp white blouse which is not see through. It has a flattering fit that tucks in clean with no bunching of excess fabric on the sides.
This knit red skirt is gorgeous in person and I recently featured it here. I do wish I had the option to try size XXS regular for extra length compared to size XSP.
I would have never picked a bright pink dress on my own so I’m so glad Dori added it to my fitting room. The bow sash to the side of the collar is a fun detail that adds interest. I took my usual size 0P.
Dori also suggested I try on this green dress with this fun statement necklace. Note that size 00P fits like size 0P through the waist and hips but the top portion of the dress fits smaller. The material is very thick so it’s more of a fall dress.
Ann Taylor Short Sleeve Tie Waist Shirtdress, size XS regular
Lastly, Dori suggested I try this beautiful red shirtdress in regular missy since the length is very short but the dress is very wide on me. When I lifted my arms you could see the sides of my bra through the larger dolman style sleeves. It fits true to size for a flowy fit so you could easily size down for a closer fit at the waist. I will have to keep an eye out for the dress in size XXSP to compare since it is an effortless dress if it fits.
I love this chartreuse dress for the fall. The delicate necklace they paired it with is so pretty. I couldn’t find this dress in petites when I was last in store so I may have to order it online to try.
LOFT has some really pretty new dresses and prints for early fall. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any of these new arrivals in petites to try on. If I get a chance to stop by this weekend I hope they will put out more selection in the petites section.
