I’ve been looking for a slightly larger backpack than the Cuyana mini leather backpack (last seen here) and I was happy to come across this Kristi Medium Flap Backpack on the Kate Spade Surprise site at the end of May for $89 (final sale price) but it’s currently $129. I wish I ordered it in black and I hope they do another deal on this style.
The outer dimensions are 10.2″ W x 9.6″ H x 5.4″ D but I would consider it to be a small backpack. It manages to fit a lot including Ralphie’s 12 ounce water bottle (8.5″ long and 9.25″ diameter at the widest part of the bottle) which you can see here. The front zippered pocket (almost 7″ W x 4.5″ H) has 3 credit card slots and comfortably fits my regular size (6″ tall) iPhone with 1/2″ to spare.

The adjustable straps are comfortable and they stay on my shoulders. The straps are 28″ at the first hole and 34″ at the last hole. I’m 5’2.5″ and I wear the backpack on the second hole for 29″ straps. If you’re taller there’s space to make two more holes an inch apart at the end of the strap for 36″ straps. It’s a light backpack but if you load it up with a log of things then the compact size makes it feel heavy but the straps are comfortable and they do not dig in to my shoulders.
I got the meringue color which is a soft white since I plan to use it this summer. I’ve used the backpack for a week so far but I haven’t noticed any marks including the bottom of the bag which doesn’t have protective feet. I’ll update this post later to share how the bag holds up. The interior has a beautiful light pink jacquard lining.
When I was removing all the protective packaging/wrapping and I noticed some light residue where they applied the light gold metal logo on the flap. I was able to use Goo Gone to remove the residue with ease and without affecting the textured leather material.
