Happy holidays! I’ve been taking an extended break from blogging while caring for Ralphie, who’s been living with stage 3 chronic kidney disease since April (I first shared his stage 2 diagnosis in 2022). To get through this challenging time, I’ve been enjoying naps, Sweetgreen, and a bit of retail therapy. Today, I’m reviewing the Quince Double-Faced Merino Wool Scarf Coat, inspired by my friend Lilly. She’s 5’6″ and I’m 5’2.5″, but we sometimes wear the same size in tops and coats/jackets.
It comes in 5 colors and I was considering the neutral oat color but I ended up getting heather grey after I saw a lady at the mall wearing the oat color which shows dirt very easily. The scarf is sewn on so it’s permanently attached. The material doesn’t wrinkle and the wool is soft and not itchy but note that it’s dry clean only. It’s a thin coat better suited to fall or climates with warmer winter temperatures. The measurements of size XS are as follows: 20″ shoulders, 18″ upper arm circumference, 23″ sleeve length (approximate length since the coat has dropped shoulder seams), 40″ pit to pit, 42″ at the start of the curved side split hem, 29.5″ total length.

I took the coat in size XS which is an oversized fit (perfect for layering underneath) but I think it still looks really chic worn buttoned and unbuttoned. For size reference I’m currently 118 pounds. I’m wearing a thick sherpa pullover underneath which is also oversized. Today was warmer at 50 degrees so I was finally able to wear it out. My husband even asked why I was dressed up so I’ll take that as a compliment.
I love mini backpacks and I wanted something a bit more secure so I bought the Kate Spade Hudson leather backpack (also available in white) when it was 50% off during Black Friday. I wish I got the white color too but I wanted to try out the black color first. The pebbled leather is soft and I like that the smooth zipper can be accessed on either side. The straps are adjustable to accommodate many different lengths. I was caught in the rain during a crazy downpour but the leather was fine after I wiped it off and my stuff was dry inside.
I still reach for my Hunter refined tall rain boots and I’m eyeing the newest version which has a more discreet branding/logo. I’ve had my pair for years and the heels are worn down a bit due to the way I walk so it’s almost time to replace them. Use code HB30 for 30% off.

This J.Crew Factory cozy sherpa tunic is extremely very warm and it’s as comfortable as lounging around in a bathrobe so I’ve washed and worn it a lot since I received it. If you already run warm I wouldn’t recommend it as it will make you sweat indoors. I got one for my mom too since they offered free shipping for the holidays but she runs hot so she only wears it when she’s going for her daily walks outside. It’s also very oversized so size XXS would have been a better fit. I’m 5′ 2.5″ and currently 118 pounds.
I also ordered the Quince ruched faux fur pillow covers to refresh our sofa along with the matching throw but I ended up returning the throw since it was too heavy and the material shed terribly. The pillow covers shed a little out of the packaging and they can be difficult to unzip since the faux fur is so close to the zippers. The covers did become easier to unzip after I washed the material and the shedding is minimal after laundering. I ended up getting this faux fur throw from Amazon which is so soft and it’s well made and more affordable since it was on promotion for under $40.
Here is what we ate on Christmas:
Steamed pork meatballs, fried green beans with fried onion pieces and salmon cooked in a soy sauce and reduced sugar sauce
Mapo tofu, bean sprouts, futomaki roll from Maruichi (local Japanese market)
Milk Green Tea from Ten One Teahouse with honey white boba (less sweet than their regular brown sugar boba)
